Hello Ladies and Gentleman,
I am a Garrett GTI 2500 user switching to a Minelab se Pro when it arrives. I know all machines are different but I was hoping someone with the same machine could pass along some of the farrus metal/ conductivity scales readings that their similar machine may read for a silver coin, gold item and such. I really just want to have a starting point to start gaining an idea how different metals may read on this machine. I have some silver coins that I can air test with to get an idea but please pass along any knowledge stored in the brain housing groups. Thanks All.

Do your air tests and then take it out for a real life hunt. Your particular ground conditions will alter the air test readings so telling you what I have is meaningless.

So the machine will read a particular item differently due to ground conditions? Very interesting. I am like a kid waiting for Christmas morning tonight. I really think this new machine will out perform my GTI 2500 by a landslide. Thanks for the reply though. So many views and not a single comment until yours. I appreciate you taking the time.

So far I am very pleased with the explorer SE Pro. haven't made that 1,000 gold coin find yet but I did find some targets much deeper than my GTI 2500 missed due to depth. It sure will take some time learning the signals this machine gives me. The site I tested it at has a ton of old iron square nails that I believe masks signals as well. I need to work this site slowly but can't wait to get to a site with less trash and more great targets! Found an old cookie cutter about 13 inches down. I was a little discouraged at first with the target but then I has to remind myself that the machine gave me a target ID, I just need to learn what they are and will useful in the future. Found a clad quarter that I detected over many times with the 2500 and got a 00-26 reading I believe. From what I understand, a lot of the 00-high conductivity reading will mostly be clad and silver coins; at least that what I gathered from reading and my air test. Feel free to add anything.....ok.......Please do so if I am off base or if you agree. Thanks

Yes, soil mineralization, target oxidation, and target angle will all effect the reading you get for a particular item. Hours with the machine out in the field is the best way to gain experience. I like going to a sand beach with a new detector. Lot of different targets and easy to recover in a short period of time.

Yes, will take some time to adapt and I know, because I went from a GTI 1500 to an Explorer. Only I did it in 2000. :) You definitely took a step up and even in your limited use it sounds like you're seeing this. It only gets better.

Thanks for the input and confidence boosters gents. Always good to hear positives from others that use similar machines. I was attempting to sell my 2500 but everyone basically wants me to give it to them. I have a 5 and 7 year old that will bet getting a decent metal detector once they master their little Bounty Hunter they are getting for Easter. Good luck this season Gents.

Cudamark,
If I ever decide to make my way back to San Diego to bring the kids out for vacation, we'll have to hook up a day and do some beach hunting. I lived in San Clemente for a time while stationed at Pendleton. I really liked it out there but really missed PA so I had to come home after my EAS. I want to bring the kids out to Sea world and Disney and show my daughter where she was born at Pendleton. That will probably be a few years down the road though.
