Minelab Excal 800, Sand Shark
Greetings, I have been reading and enjoying the many posts and valuable information. This is my first post and was hoping to get some feedback on this problem. I spend approx. 8-9 months overseas in S.E. Asia and have purchased a used Excal 800. I have been testing it here in the states and so far I am pleased and really enjoy the "hunt". Of course their is a learning curve but I am hooked. My Sand Shark ( only had for 1 month so I bought the Excal ) is in the shop with a cable problem and I will most likely leave for 4 months before it is resolved. The people at Tesaro have promptly responded to my two email which takes the edge off a frustrating problem for all parties. Does anyone know if I can recharge my batteries overseas (220) by just connecting like I do my computer? I have spoken to Minelab USA and also emailed them this question but have not heard from them. (service has lived up to what I read here) Thanks

Welcome to Tnet for your first post.

I don't know about charging the Minelab overseas, so you will have to wait for better info.

You should be able to purhcase and oversea charger for few dollars. Well worth it pr get an adpater for the US style charger.

As I understand it 220V USA is not the same as 220V in other parts of the world in this way, US 220V AC operates at 60hz or cycles, foreign 220V AC is 50hz or cycles per second. That is the input side of the equation, of course the output is DC and only its voltage and current are a concern.

Your laptop power supply is designed to be universal, all you must do is change the mains connector from 220V to a 110V and it outputs the correct DC voltage and current.

This how I understand the differences.

if in doubt, buy the 12V car charger and charge it from a car/truck.

What an excellent thread!!!
Great info guys!

I'm sorry Minelab hasn't gotten back to you.
If you feel this thread left you unsure and need more info, I would gladly get the answers you need the same day they are asked.

PM me if you would like me to call Minelab for more.

Best regards.....Mike
