I read that the Sandshark finds more gold chains than the Excal 2, any body have any knowledge about this??? Thanks for any info...
:icon_scratch: :icon_scratch: :stop:...All i can tell you is i have been useing the Sovereign since 1992 and had the Excal....And the only complaint they had on them was they could not pick up or find small chains ..So there you go the Excl ll will not pick up or find small chaines.................The Sandshark never used one.............. :coffee2:.

my Excal ll wont hit on a gold chain but my Tiger Shark will!

Not all gold chains are equal. The Tiger Shark is good at finding the thin ones while most of the others won't even make a sound if you rub the chain on the coil. The addition of a large clasp or pendant makes some hunters say their detector will find gold chains. One of my Excals can find chains, but not the thin ones the Tiger Shark will find.

Completely new to metal detecting: Have been comparing Excal II to Tiger Shark based on recommendations. Live in Florida and will have access to beaches but not able to plan all trips around the ocean tides. I want to be able to get in at least knee deep water plus dry sand areas. And last would like to be able to hunt dirt areas? Do not have any machines. What do you advise for first machine since buying a second machine won't be an option for a while. Thanks

id go with the Excal ! you can hunt salt and non salt beaches rain or shine and its good on land.don't forget the PI's don't discriminate .you will dig 20" for a hair pin or a nail or a dime. and on land there are just too many iron items to dig you crazy with a PI. the Excal has tone ID that will help you decide weather to dig or not. good luck!

Thanks for the post Dixie Digger
It is exciting researching the different machines, but then comes reality. Learn the machine and learn the beaches before the new wears off. Previous post in this thread indicate Excal may not read gold chain, but I think that might be a small negative outweighed by the positives of the machine for rings, etc. Headed to beach tomorrow morning to check area. Machine purchase still two weeks away.

The other option would be to get a Troy X5 and otterbox it. There isn't a better machine for chains the problem for most is that the coil only see's one link not the whole chain and the Troy loves gold and will hit the link. I've checked my Troy against a number of other units I have as well as other guy's and it does snag chains with ease. Dan
