I went from a GTI to an Explorer in 2000 and never looked back... never had the thought of looking back... not even for a second! :thumbsup:

I utilize the whites DFX, and absolutely love it, great all around machine, turn on and go. Basically its just all about learning your machine, sounds, depths, etc..

If you hunt around here, get the White's. If you don't hunt around here, get the E-Trac! :thumbsup: ;D ;D ;D

Seriously, you can get 25 or 30 different answers to this question. If you can, hook up with an experienced user of each of the two and get their input, maybe even try each one first. Different machines have different strengths and weaknesses.

Whichever you decide to get, congrats in advance on the new machine! :wink:

Re: Minelab etrac or whites 2500?? (can't decide)!!!!

I have a GTI2500 and think its a nice detector. However, I'm looking at the Etrac as its replacement. BedfordBob and DeArmittPA have let me try out theirs to compare, here are my thoughts from a short demo. (Thank you Bob and JD!)

The Garrett goes deep and does real well ID ing stuff up to 6"-7"... it will find a lot of things deeper I just can't tell if its worth digging.

The Etrac finds EVERYTHING... and does a better job of telling you what it thinks the item will be. What I don't like as well is the pinpointing on the Etrac.. but that should get easier with use. And Andy Sabisch does quite a nice job explaining the Etrac (and rest of the Explorer line, for that matter!),something that is not available for the Garrett.

Here's my last thought: If Charles Garrett was running his 2500 and I had the Etrac, he'd probably find a ton more stuff than me. But I think if Iused both machines I'll find more of what I am looking for with an Etrac. Thus, I'm saving money for one. 8)

Ok, here is my real last thought. This advice and a dollar will get you a cup of coffee. :wink:

If you are a coinshooter and love finding old coins, the E-Trac is definitely the right choice. I would especially recommend it because you are already used to the Xterra, and you will find some similarities as they are both Minelabs.

Re: Minelab etrac or whites 2500?? (can't decide)!!!!

I used to use a Whites DFX for the last three years, great machine and found my lifetime find a 1901 s barber quarter with it. This year i purchased a Minelab E-trac, no comparison. The E-trac is an amazing machine, Ive only had it since june, and ive already found more with the Etrac in 4 months than i found with the Whites DFX in three years. And i havnt been going to new locations, been hunting the same places i hunted with the DFX. The E-trac is a silver finding machine. From someone whos owned a whites and a minelab i would suggest a minelab. But any detector will find metal you just have to learn how each one works.

I've got my eyes on a White's Spectra V3 ::)
So do I. Its in my hands right now. I wouldn't use anything else.

Thanks Chris. I have a DVD they sent me and I love the 3 frequencies it uses to find deep targets and tells you what you are really seeing. However, I'm sure that any detector can be beat to death by pros and cons by anyone. I have read some reviews on the Minelab SE and the
Etrac and I'm sure they are good machines as well...........as long as you learn and understand your machine and what it is telling you. No machine can be 100 precent accurate all of the time . I'd love to back over to the J.A. McDonald place that I pounded with an E-trac or Minelab explore se or a Spectra V3 and just see what I could find that my ace 250 missed ::)

Both the E-trac and Spectra V3 are great machines. You cannot go wrong with either. The only negative I know of is on the V3. The wireless headphones are not very good. I guess they did not do enough field testing. I think you can use it with wired phones. The only knock on the E-trac is learning to use it, if you can learn it you will love it, if not you will sell it.
