Minelab Elite Question on Pinpointing motion

I've owned my Elite for 3 days now and it seems to be a nice machine but the question I have is when I go to pinpoint something I flip the switch to all-metal mode and go over my target but I notice that I have to keep swinging it back and forth. I've had other detectors in the past and when you go to pinpoint something there would be a constant sound when you get close to your target and the sound would stay on once I'm over the object, Is this the characteristic of the Minelab Elite or is there something I am doing wrong?

There is no specific Pinpoint feature on the Elite. You pinpoint your target by sweeping back and forth over it. Doing so in an X pattern will help you narrow down the exact location. As well, you may find the all metal mode gives you a more crisp audio response when the target is directly under the coil. The audio response will increase as the target nears the center of the DD coil, and decrease as the target leaves the center of the coil. Most Sovereign users implement what has become known as the Sovereign Wiggle. The Sovereign Wiggle is basically a gentle "moving back and forth" of the coil, over the target. Short strokes that allow you to end up with the center of the DD coil directly over the target. You do this by making a mental note of where the target is, when the audio response at it's max. If you have a meter on your Sovereign, you will note that the TID locks in as well. If you hold the coil over the coil too long (without moving the coil), the Elite might think that the target is part of the ground matrix and blank it out. So keep that coil moving and practice the wiggle. JMHO HH Randy

I have used an Elite for about 3 yrs,, and use it 80% of the time on the beach
i use a s-12 coil,, hot and deep.. to pinpoint when you get a good tone
sweep a couple of times to get your verticle line, then you can work the coil,
back toward you until the sound goes away,, move back up for tone and it will be
dead under center about two inches back from tip..
Another method is to get it centered vertically on the center part of your coil.
leave your coil in place and turn 90 degrees. and find signal along your first line
think plus sign...
Good luck with your hot new machine ...... Peg leg red

This is the best way to pinpoint with the Minelabs and other DD coils.
