Minelab CTX 3030 Discrimination Advantages

Bart,

I'm trying to decide between the CTX 3030 and the E-trac .... Wonder if the CTX 3030 will go just as deep or deeper than the E-Trac? I use a fisher 1280X for water hunting about once a week , would this 3030 be fine for water hunting? I don't go past 6ft in the local swimming area. I noticed the 3030 says it doesn't have waterproof headphones.

I wonder how this 3030 will do with finding gold rings and smaller gold.... ahhh so many questions.

It doesn't seem to be any deeper. Much faster recovery and separation. The ability to see multiple targets under the coil is amazing!

Holler if you have questions! I will make you a great deal on either! Bart

I have been using an explorer XS and my biggest problem is ID'ing gold and jewelery. It seems every piece of aluminum is twisted or bent so it falls in the same area on the screen as gold. In trashy areas and around houses there are hundreds of small pieces of aluminum in the ground from re-roofing operations. The XS gives me little clue if I'm ID'ing a gold ring or just another piece of aluminum scrap. Will the CTX 3030 be any better at discriminating between small pieces of aluminum an gold items?

Another question is size of the object. Sometimes it is obvious I am ID'ing an aluminum can but other times the signal is broken enough that it is impossible to tell the size of the item. The Garrett GTI has a size feature that is sort of accurate and I wonder why Minelab hasn't incorporated such a feature in the CTX. Does the CTX provide any additional information on the size of the item under the coil?
