Mine widow's houseplace

I spent a very relaxing day on a farm owned by an old school buddy, on the farm is an old houseplace where a widow moved after her husband was killed in a coal mine explosion. All that is visible is the old well, & her jonquils, (still blooming after all these years) The well has the date of 1937, the best I could make out. husband was killed, along with four other men, in 1936.
I found old radio batteries, axe head, horseshoes, chains, marble, toy gun (half), lots of metal relics, broken crockery, broken china, half an indian arrowhead, & lots more etc.
I dug some of her flowers to plant on her grave tomorrow as I pass by the old cemetery. (sorry the well fell over ) ;D ::)
(newspaper clipping enclosed) Her name is Anstina , she died in 1973 , after raising three sons & two daughters,(the hard way), dirt poor.

Re: Mine widow's houseplace

Fossis, your plans to plant some of the widow's own flower bulbs on her grave is a mighty touching thing to do. I mean that in all sincerity. It makes me well up a little just thinking about it. You just earned a little bit of good karma credit, IMO. WTG. I bet she is smiling down on you now. I can only hope someone would think of me as they search my old yard for hidden treasures. I might just leave a few trinkets to make their search worthwhile.

Your finds at the site are very interesting. I hope you will post more pix as you get more goodies. Keep at it, maybe there is silver to be found. I always enjoy seeing relics, so thanks for the photo. Good luck.

Re: Mine widow's houseplace

Thanks so much Treasure Tales, I think it is very important to preserve all the history we can for the next generation who will know nothing of the old timers unless we record what we have , I try & take pic's, and write all the history I can of all the old places.
This is just to honor the pioneers who came before us , & paved the way.
My Great-Great Grandparents came from Kentucky in a covered wagon in 1879, & homesteaded in this area, so I have deep roots here.
