found this today in a area with lots of old dead fresh water molusk in the water and in the bank of a near by creek, and found tis with half a shell in the mud shell was about 6.5in or so in length ,, at first i am thinking rock or marble but is not clay or glass ,etc ..... any ideas or is it a pearl of nice size from fresh water shell fish ?:dontknow: i can take a light to it and it will slightly lum the outer portion to a depth of approx 2-3 mm

What's with the greenish glow coming from underneath? Are you sure it isn't a marble or something with crust on it?

that greenish glow is from the led on the cam, if it is a marble it will the lightest one i have found that is calcified

Hey Penn State!

It could be a freshwater mussel pearl that has lost some of it's luster. They say body oils help keep luster on pearls. Rub it with your hands for a while and see if you can bring out some shine.

White Clay Marble,:thumbsup:. Quite common on old sites.I've found a few some are almost as big as a quarter,most are this size though.Being a commercial fisherman I've opened my share of shellfish & seen quite a few pearls.None have ever looked like that.Here's just one I have that's like yours.....& a site to see for yourself.

well it may be a marble, just never seen clay like that if that is what is happy huntnn ya'll
