First thought was part of a perfume atomizer but I wouldn't think it was meant to hold liquid because of the way it sets. Maybe a curtain rod finial?

Interesting thought on the finial- I think it is too large, but maybe for a very ornate window? We also thought about a wall sconce- which goes along with the light fixture idea- it would have to have been set in a holder of some kind because if it is lying on the flat surface the opening is to the side.

Is that a hole all the way through?

It's an ink bottle for a revolving ink stand. Mid to late 1800's

Thanks to hunting dog!! You nailed it (snailed it, haha)! Never thought someone would actually have a picture of another one. That's great- can't wait to share this with all my privy dig friends!

Thanks also- cypress!! What a great link to share. I also know now from the pics that I had pieces of the rack that I threw back into the privy hole. Wish now I would have kept them. Oh well. Thanks again so much!

Very nice find indeed. Yo burglarifyoulike, you would get a lot of attention on your privy finds if you would post them in the artifacts department under bottles and glass. The good folks over there would love to see your finds.

Wow that is an awesome ink I've never seen anything like it. Please take bass assassins suggestion and please post this down in the tnet basement.

Thanks to cypress, bass assassin, and relicdude. I will certainly try to post this and some of our other finds, but I am not good at posting stuff. My sister-in-law did that last post for me. It takes me literally hours sometimes to do a post, which is why I don't have many anymore :( thanks for the suggestions all!
