My friends son dug this the other day . About 2x2in , from a early 1800s site . Can anyone point me in the right direction

What does the back look like? And how big is it?
Ill see if my friend can send s picture of the back . Its approximately 2 inches by 2 inches

Looks like a watch fob from the WWI era. :thumbsup:
It may just indicate US patriotic symbolism from that time period as well.

I contacted my friend and he said it was flat stamped brass with no markings

I couldn't find an example when I searched for watch fobs. For the most part fobs had a rectangular attachment so I am not sure it is a fob. Maybe part of a necklace or other piece of patriotic jewelry?

Now that I've had a second look at this piece, I realize that I've found similar pieces with the same back loop attachment.
I think you're right fyrffytr1, that this might be hair jewelry or some type of decoration other then a watch fob. :icon_scratch:

I also feel based on the style of the eagle that your is friend's sons find is older then 1900, more likely c1880.
Here are a few of the pieces that I've found for comparison.
