Found this today at my button site. Not quite sure what it is but it looks to have maybe been a pin/medal? With all the stars going around, I thought maybe military? And if military...which time frame? I have found military relics from the Indian War up to WWII at this site.

What do ya think?

Thanks!!! Nana :)

Great find, Nana! It sure looks like a military ribbon to me. Not all ribbons has the metal surrounding it, I never seen one with the stars, so I'm saying it should be very old. Per my knowledge it was normally the citation ribbons that had the metal.

Your find is almost 3" that's would be a very large ribbon. Better wait on PBK or someone else to actually ID it.

I counted the # of stars around it and came up with 32. I believe Minnesota was the 32nd state and came into statehood about 1858. Other than that guess, ???

Well..I counted those stars too and thought that might be significant....but didn't have any idea who was the 32nd. :P :D

Thanks Stoney! ;)

Kia Ora, Hi and Well done Nana, that's a real treasure!!
and Kia Ora River Rat, but, it is only two inches long ;D
Makes it more likely at that size to be a medal ribbon holder. Cool.

The reverse side is intriguing, has the 'right hand' clamp broken off?

Cheers, Mike

At two inches across... I think it was the top portion of a campaign ribbon or organizational ribbon - not necessarily military, but more like a G.A.R. ribbon...The top portion you found may have held a name tag or plate, as the top of a ribbon holder which held a banner/ribbon that hung down a few inches, maybe with a dangling medal... I'll find some pictures.

Nana - Might not be what you found, but it's the same thing with a hole in it for the button/picture.

60TH ANNUAL ENCAMPMENT SONS OF UNION VETERANS RIBBON - HAZLETON, PA 1940

Ribbon meas. approx. 4 ½" x 2". Top brass bar missing front label. Reverse with soldered t-bar clasp. Suspended from top bar is red, white, and blue ribbon meas. 4" x 1 ½" with gold lettering " 60th ANNUAL/ ENCAMPMENT/ SONS OF/ UNION VETERANS/ HAZLETON, PENN'A/ JUNE 16-23, 1940". Ribbon has very slight fraying to edge. Hanging from the top bar is a button with a photo and marking "ADJT. A.W. GABRIO".
