Military Tag from the 1920's

Hi all-

I found this small tag this summer and it appears to be from a unit member of Company D, 206th Infantry, 34th Division (National Guard) - from the 1920's. It's very small (about 1 inch long and 3/4" wide) and I was hoping someone here might be able to shed some light on what this tag was attached to originally? Was it something that went on baggage or a a rifle sling? Just curious..

Thanks for any info!

Re: Military Tag from the 1920's

After looking up the unit history, it appears that the unit listed on the tag was Reorganized and redesignated 1 July 1940 as Battery D, 216 Coast Artillery (Antiaircraft) - so that matches with what you found! That was amazingly fast! Thanks! :icon_thumright:

I am still curious as to the purpose of the tag though. Was it something issued to this person to identify his baggage or what?

I think it could be for a quartermaster laundry bag, locker tag or for personal baggage. Doesn't look like a piece of jewelry. It looks like it is hand stamped rather than engraved, and also very small for a bracelet.

Anyway, my 2 cents!
