Hey guys,

Just joined here and have a question. I have a ring that my grandfather gave me a while back. I assume it is a military ring, but I am unsure and would like any info anyone can give me about what kind of ring it is.

It says nothing on it, except for the word "sterling" on the inside of the ring directly behind the front image of the bird.

Here are some pictures I just took... sorry if they aren't good... the lighting was messing me up and a close photo was too blurry.

EDIT: Switched the junky pictures out with two better ones. Hope that helps! Thanks!

Welcome i cant see it but I'm old ;D

It's hard to see without a close up, but it looks like the U.S. Air Force emblem. That would make it newer than Sept. 18, 1947. More pictures please!

Thanks for the replies guys!

I switched the two bad pictures out with two cleared ones.

I hope that helps. There isn't really anything else on the ring to take a picture of. Just the Bird on what appears to be a scroll on the front of the ring, and two identical birds on the sides (one on each side).

Thanks again!

Better pictures, now I'm not sure about Air Force. Maybe early Army Air Corps. Here is one on Ebay that is really worn....it looks close to yours.

Welcome to the forum, BB. Yep, it is a military ring. That eagle crest on the top of the ring is the same design shared by the US Army and the US Air Force. From the way the crest is molded onto a schroll shape and it's being made of sterling silver; my guess is that it was a special design. I bought one of the "standard" models of the USAF ring at a BX several years ago. They had a fake amber solored "stone" on the top that is surrounded by the letters "Air Force" and it was deffinitely NOT made of sterling. It was made in the newer junk metal that looks like a cross between chrome and nickel. I have the feeling that your ring was for an officer because the crest has no round, ring-shaped border. Army and Air Force officers' caps use the open crest while all enlisted ranks use the crest suspended in the ringed border.
I presume you Grandpa has passed on otherwise you could ask him about its history.

I think that it was a ring that was sold at the PX during WWII. Still a cool ring. Tony

Another similar ring accredited by the owner on the internet as being a WWII Army Air Corps Ring.

Thanks a lot for all the replies!

Lots of helpful info. Both the pictures you guys posted do look a lot like mine. Especially the sides.

So the consensus is that this was just an ordered ring? Not an issued one or anything like that?

Thanks again!

I'm pretty sure that there have been no "issued" rings in any branch of the US armed services. The closest situation would be the rings worn by the graduates of the various military academies such as West Point. But, the academy rings have the school's name on them. So, by process of elimination, your ring is a high quality, service ring produced by a private manufacturer and made available to service members through the Base Exchange stores on the bases and / or off base jewelry stores. Junk rings were NOT made with sterling silver. Ergo, YOUR ring is not junk.
