I found this small button today.
It has an anchor without a crown.

I found it not far from this navy button that I dug a couple months ago.

Maybe you guys can help me with my other navy button (2nd photo)

It has been identified as a 1837-1891 captains royal naval button, with some conjecture over it being a 1837-1843 high domed version.

This is taken from an email from Tim Burt, Hamwick house

But apparently other button books don't recognise the different versions.

Going back to your first button, I don't think it is military. From what I have learned from the Cannonballguy, I would say it is a fashion button from the fact that the back is iron. The military ones usually don't have an iron back.

Yeah, I did get that feeling, the quality is not what my other military buttons are like.
