MILITARY MEDAL ?

I think this is part of a military medal.l The back says made in occupied Japan,The front has some kind of a crest w/lone of the swords is broke ions or dragons on either side of it with wording underneath the crest. illegible to me,sorry. one of the swords is broken off at the top as is the attachment. Thanks

It looks more heraldic in nature to me, especially with the "Made in Occupied Japan" mark on it. That and the crest on the front of it. It does appear similar in shape to some Bavarian military medals. The cross is referred to as a Maltese cross I believe. It also resembles the German Merit cross. It's easy to date it anyway.

It is similar to the German War Merit Cross but the arms on that medal are solid, and obviously the center emblem is quite different. If you can make out whatever is below the shield that might help, but I've never seen it before and I don't think it's military related at all
