You are right. It is a heater thing. Gas heater to be more specific. They had these back in the day before central heat.

Ray-Glo brand gas-fired radiant home heater from J.H. Grayson Mfg. Co., Athens, Ohio.
The company was in business only during the late 1920's into the 1930's.

The medal is the Army Achievement Medal. They started issuing these I believe 1984. Definitely not WWII.
 

Yeah not WW2 but for $1.50 why not and it's in it's presentation case with the mini medal. lapel pin and ribbon bar too. Should be good for $10 or so. Cool old gas heater. I remember those when I lived up north years ago, used to set your shoes under them to dry out.
