I'd appreciate any ideas about what this could be. No one seems to know...

The holes do not connect, from what I can see.

It looks like it might be a water expansion tank.

Unfortunately no markings.

On the larger inlet hole, the inside has rubber insulation. Also it's very solid - light metal, but not hollow from what I can tell.

scotty, what are the extentions on the bottom sides? are they removable or cast into the housing?

Then I still think it has to do with water; perhaps an industrial expansion tank or perhaps a condenser (provided those slugs on the side are there to be tapped and fitted). Have you filled the large hole with water to see if it is contained or if it channels to the small end?

Its a metal thermos.Used to keep liquids cool or hot.Yours has a drain hole in the bottom of it which is rare cause thermos's are usally are glass with a metal or plastic outside it.
