I am posting this to help a friend find out anything I can about it. It appears to be a military hat pin and it seems as though it was made for someone in the band. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. 39441392_1884884468266421_9101685090689220608_n.jpg39504524_451799938659461_1161837354202169344_n.jpg

This might help some:

have never seen a military hat device eagle with a lyre on top. I would tend to believe it's from a high school band uniform hat

Hmm, I’m not sure about the U.S. Army modifying the Great Seal of the U.S. for any reason... but I could be wrong. Either way good job finding a match Creskol!

edit, looking around I did find an example where a military hat badge do have a modified Great Seal, however it’s said to date to 1900, which was just before the Great Seal as such was adopted. Then again, this one looks modified
So, in other words, I don’t know!

US Army Band (Pershing's Own) is attached to the 3rd Infantry Division (Old Guard) and is stationed at Ft. Meyer (Arlington, Va.) now joint base Meyer. They have a number of different band units included in their unit such as the Army Chorus, String Band etc. The two units constitute the honor guard that provides for the maintenance, burial detail and the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown at Arlington National Cemetery, and joint performance with both music accompanied with ceremonial drill. It is also considered the last cavalry unit in the army in as much as their duties re burials in which horse drawn caissons and the Riderless Horse are used. Part of the Military District of Washington.
