Military dog tag?

Been in my family for decades. Grandfather was in WWI, no one to my knowledge was in WWII.

35mm, very thin, sounds like brass, reverse is smooth.

While it looks like one, I don't believe it is. Most likely a tool chit or something along those lines, or a pole tag. Also while I'm not an expert on fonts, in my opinion, it looks more modern than WWI vintage. That said I could very well be wrong on the font.

Dog tags typically have the individual's name on them, so when remains are found they could be identified by the tag. See below link for WWI dog tag examples.

I'd be lying if I said I knew what either of those were. ??? :laughing9:

But my granddad did have a bunch of old tools, worked as a carpenter/machinist all his life after the war.

Tool chit, take a tool off the board and leave your chit in its place. So they know who has what tool.

Pole tag, telephone poles etc have tags on them, over the years the tags have evolved.

I agree tool chit Ive found many of those a Dog tag would have more info on it.
