Post WWII West German Gas mask container

"A protective carrier for the old style West German gas masks. Aluminum lined, steel outer is 4" diam. x 13" long. Features include gasket sealed lid, spring latch for secure closure, 1" cotton web shoulder sling, and even a special compartment in the top of the lid for extra lenses."

For years every time I saw a film about German soldiers they were carrying one of these. I always wondered what it was for but never thought to ask. Now I know. See, learn something new every day on Tnet! Monty
