These are some what I believe to be military buttons. They were all located in a bay on Cape Breton Island Canada with a metal director. One is sliver, with 104 in the middle, Brunswick underneath and a crown above the 104. The other button says Wicklow Infantry with a harp in the middle and a crown above it (Ireland?}. The third button has what looks like an R then one or two other letters and a crown above it. Curious to what they are and why they would be located in this area.

Thanks Duncan

Sure are. The one on the right "104" is the 104th New Brunswick Regiment obviously. An officers pattern and dating to the War of 1812 era. It's a beauty and a more difficult to find pattern. The Irish button was obviously from someone who immigrated from Ireland. I can't provide much info on it, especially not seeing the reverse or the back mark. Looks like it probably falls in the 1790-1820 period. I'm not sure on the middle button. Great finds.

likely from the war of 1812 era --the new Brunswick area was a staging area for british attacks during the war --the irish button might be from irish ( british controlled ) troops brought over to fight in the war --- I found a listed group -- powerscourt cavalry company --wicklow - irish volunteers that took part in the war of 1812

a R can be for "rifleman" ......or "royal" as in a unit name
