Military Button?

I found this in my front yard around 8:00 last night as my last dig of the day, Registered as a nickel. On the back side the connector is threaded like a screw and very small is printed:

WC
1812

The front is the seal of the United States.

Any Ideas?

Well, yes and no. Military yes, the US Army has used that pattern since 1902. A button, sort of... I think its the fastener for the side of a soldiers dress hat, based on the screw back and apparent size. (I don't know if these are called something other than a button). Like this:
