✅ SOLVED Military button ID needed

Last years find that has me stumped. Small 2 piece button with stars and writing. Cuff or collar? What is it? Came from an early 1800's site in upstate NY with militia buttons assosciated. Thanks in advance, Bigsprings

Actually , with the pic being upside down here, it appears to read LAFAYETTE .
