Been searching new field after the Potato crop, Found it hard going due to the heavy ruts, only finds being lead and shot gun cartridge ends , Except for a small domed button about 17mm across with traces of "silvering" On closer inspection and cleaning : its from The Buckingham 85th Volunteers ,,,see this,,,85th Regiment of Foot (Bucks Volunteers) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
They saw service during the War of 1812. So it's possible the button could have been over to America and back. Just a thought: Thanks for looking. Hutch.
PS. button made by Jennens London.

Nice button, but the construction indicates post war, as does the makers mark. Years ago I had a pristine 82nd officers and it would have been about a $350-$500 button with an early mark, but was Jennens London and worth less than $100. I believe Jennens London is about 1830 or so, which means your button probably did not make the trip to the US.

Thanks for the info: it was a nice though though, about it's journey!

Any numbered button like that is a good find, as IP says its at least 1830s & probably quite a bit later (not much past 1900 though).

Button Makers and their backmarks G to M - ukdfd
Check here for the exact backmark.

Already checked it Cru, On my button it's:: JENNENS * LONDON.
So it's not as any others:
The shank is brased which may help in dating:
Thanks for the interest: Hutch.

Regardless......A cool find for sure..........HH

That's my button. It says "Buck's"

-Buck :D

I have an 85th Bucks Volunteers button that was detected in the Chesapeake Bay area, I'll try to post up a picture.

A good indication of a button being War of 1812 era is the material, usually pewter, and the iron shank on the back, added after the button was cast.

There is plenty of non pewter 1812 buttons, including all the best ones! :)
