Hey Guys,

I found this button tonight. I don't know enough about old military buttons to know what era it comes from. There is no back on it. Any ID/age help is much appreciated!

Pardon me please, but it is not a General Staff button's front. It is the front of an 1854-through-1874 US Army Enlisted-ranks "General Service" button. See info and button GI-94 on page 40 of the button-book by Alphaeus H. Albert. Additional info: In 1875, the General Service button eagle's form was changed somewhat, and the shield on its chest became "raised." See Albert's book page 41 for info and button GI-98.

It's how I've made a (small) living, for nearly 40 years. Let me humbly say, I feel it is a dealer's moral obligation to put the correct ID-label on what he sells. So, during those decades, I diligently "did my homework" in books like Albert's, Tice's, McKee-&-Mason's, Phillips', O'Donnell-&-Campbell's, etc. That being said, I'm still learning, of course. TreasureNet's "What-Is-It" forum is an excellent place for that.

May y'all have good fortune in your relic-digging. :)
