Detector(s) used
Whites M6, Whites Pulse Diver, ETRAC.
It reads "6th Australian INF REG" RULLI SECUNDUS
Any ideas what kind of military badge this would be and how old it is?
Thanks you. 019.JPG020.JPG021.JPG

Clearly a Cap Badge, not sure on age but looks WWI era.

True could be a collar / lapel badge, it does look small enough.

Hi,

Just joined Forum and very interested to note this first 'Pic' I have looked at is from 'Down Under' (where I am in Victoria Australia).

It is an early, probably pre 1904 MILITIA Badge, and Latin may be Nulli Secundus (Second to None, and only guessing at maybe, so no offense).

Australia had no formal Army up until approx 1903 and each State had various Militia contingents.

Would love to know where You found and wonder at Badges travels to have ended up there.

Thanks and cheers from down under,

Daveml.

Unless thats the world's largest nickel, that's not a cap badge but a collar badge like CRUSADER said.

Actually Mack did, I just did a double take & agreed.

Welcome to the Forum Dave :)
I found it in a patch of woods in Massachusetts.

Hi Garibaldi,

Magic finding it there, Australia was not a 'Country' until Federation in 1901, and each State had their own Colonial Militia and Navies etc, so it is as I said, Magic to find the Badge all the way over there and WONDER how it got there.

Could have been brought back by returning American miner ? (had quite a few where I am pre 1900, local creek named 'Yankee Jim's Creek')

Revising age to pre 1900 (do a search on 'Australian Rising Sun' Badge and the first one has same 7 point background).

Hope all this rambling helps,

Daveml.

I guess we could use these measurements to isolate which is it, a colar brass or hat badge. Here's the measurement for each form this like that Mackaydon posted:

https://www.noble.com.au/auctions/lot/?id=173254

6TH AUSTRALIAN INFANTRY REGIMENT (VICTORIA), 1900-1912, hat badge (37mm x 51mm) and collar badge (36mm x 26mm) in brass and white metal. Uncirculated. (2)
