I’m sorry I have very limited info for this piece. This was given to me by my neighbor around 1982 (I was 8Yrs old). She told me that it was unearthed in Central Pennsylvania (Near Hershey). I do not recall when it was found.
Also if you have any idea what it may be worth I would be interested to know.
Please let me know if you need any more info and I can try to help.

It's too small be be a Civil War Round. It appears to be a 37mm cannon projectile. The World War II light tank called "The "Stuart" fired a round of this size.

Looks like a Rupp or Hotchkiss projectile. Breechloading small cannon of the Victorian Age. One variation of the Hotchkiss was repeating and looked like a large gatling gun. They were used up to the Spanish-American War. Sometimes called "Mountain Guns".

The Hotchkiss is infamous for being the cannon used on the men, women and children Lakota gathered at Wounded Knee after they were disarmed.

The shells weight two pounds (37mm) and are explosive, by the way. Don't drop it.

What I have looks like the ( http://cartridgecollectors.org/introtoartyammo/AP.jpg ) 37mm A.P. M74 w/ Tracer (Thank you dnewbury2), but the rotating band is different. But the band in the other forum(linked aboved) is the same as mine.
