Here's a link to some relics from the battle of Verdun. Included in the photo is a button like yours (though it's kind of small). Where's Oronoco Park?

oops, forgot the link: http://www.flickr.com/photos/glosters/3408711927/
Oronoco, Minnesota is about 10 miles north of Rochester,Mn.

Sort of strange to find that there. I enlarged the photo in the link to compare with your button and the lettering on yours appears more crowded than the 1916 button.

Thanks Likely guy.
It's a French shirt button.
I tried to find it but no luck so thanks again.

Hmmm, I found one of those too and was wondering as well. I don't think they are really that old though

My research says it could be as old as WWI. I dont know the old from the new. WWI reenactors? http://www.reenactor.net/units/151ri/8-une.html

Scroll down to

The Petit Équipement which consists of:
1 -- Mle.1892 Musette (bread bag) -- The Musette bags are made of a linen canvas that can range in color from tan to brown -- Green French bread bags were post-war issue, so we don't use them. The Musette was closed secure with two buttons, marked Équipements Militaires -- soldiers often carried two of these when going to the front.

I've found same button on 228.4 m. It was German line of defense in Jul.1942 (Rzhev battle). Near I've found 10-pfennig coin 1940.
