I've has my detector for 12 months now and as far as I'm concerned its the best hobby in the world. The fun of finding, the research, fresh air and exercise is what its about for me. That said I did pass a milestone yesterday when my latest hunt took me to $1005 since last October. Its all been cleaned up and sitting in the safe with two dozen rings, assorted jewellery, relics and about 60 pre-decimal coins dating back to 1822. My wife told me I needed to bank the money because she doesn't like all that money sitting around the house. ::)

I figure I give my missus enough to worry about so it time to head to the bank and then buy some more prospecting gear and the kids some presents for christmas ;D

Won't be tomorrow though as I plan to do my first trip hunting on a goldfield with a detector. I don't expect to find anything but you never know......

Thanks for all the positive replies guys. Well I headed down to a town called Cooma which is about 100km from where I live. I obviously need to do more research (hats off to you Tinpan) because where I had hoped to go is now apparently on private land. I asked about and was given rough directions to an old chinese goldfield at Numeralla. I ended up roughly in the right area but only found some old shell casings and a boot tack or two.

On the way home I decided there were still two hours of sunlight (and I didn't want to get home too early) so I stopped off at some sports fields I hadn't tried out as yet. in two hours I found 25 coins totaling $28.12 and a nice little ring with two sapphires/garnets?. I only did a very small area in comparison to the size of the fields and with such a haul in a short while definitely worth going back. Just walking back to my car not swinging the detector I found $3.70 ;D
