Hello everyone. Went back to the old church this evening where I found my first 3 ringer on Monday, double checked again with the pastor and he said have fun. Dug a few pieces of junque and some antique iron when I got a signal I'm not used to. Started chiseling at the concrete-like dirt and out pops a reale with a date of 1782! I think it is a 2 but I'm not sure since I've never seen one in person, any help would be appreciated. I have NEVER found a silver coin of any kind in the U.S. (found several while stationed in Germany) until today and I think I may have just spoiled myself. Thanks for looking.

Matt

P.S. Found it under a beautiful old oak.

Wow! Yeah, its all down hill from here :)

its a 1 reale "R" means real - 2 R is 2 reale

M with tiny "o" - is the mexico city mint mark

F. F. --are the two metal purity and weight assayers

note at time a 1 real coin was equal to 12 1/2 cents * with 8 reales being equal to 1 dollar

it was basically like a modern day dime which its similar in size to.--but it would buy a hearty lunch or dinner with beer -- or a nights sleep in a inn, long ago.

nice that its unholed --as it was common everyday money --it was often holed and put on a string and wore about ones neck --for ease of carry and use.

Thanks for the info. I was merely guessing as to what it was exactly but either way I'm stoked!

Thanks everybody. I'm going back this morning, maybe I'll find it's big brother. ::) Btw, anybody on here live around the Fayetteville NC area? I'm stationed at Shaw AFB here in SC right now but I'll be moving up there in a month.

Matt

P.S. We didn't get a drop of rain here from Irene, just a lot of wind.
