Techniquely you found your first sleigh bell, not crotal.
It's to do with the type of attachment. Its more like a stud/rivet that attached in rows on a strap of leather that went around the neck of the pony/horse. Crotal Bell have a single loop & are attached as 'singles' mostly. Those crotal bells depending on size were used on sheep, goats, horses & maybe a few other animals.Nice. Oh yeah? Please elaborate.

My first thought was that type of mercury syringe, however yours doesn't look pewter to me. It looks much more modern than when they stopped making them in the 18th C I think...
