Hi, I found this rock or what might be a meteorite? i was metal detecting at a local park and recreation area along some old trails and picked this up on the metal detector. its seems unusually heavy for its size. I have not weighed it yet i do not have a scale here at home. but it seems to be very hard. i struck it with a hammer and a screw driver to see how hard it was and it barely dented it just took off some of the crust. next i used a rare earth magnet to see if it was magnetic and it is but barely. the magnet will not stick to it but is attracted to it. then i filed one side and the used sand paper on the same surface and it reveals metal content. silvery. I need your input on this and help identifying this object. could it be some sort of native ore? slag? although it does not appear to be slag or at least from what ive seen. any and all info or input would be greatly appreciated :) thank you

With the characteristics you explained, if a "rare earth magnet", which are very strong for their size, does not pick it up, the chances of it being a meteorite are less than 1%.

Hi I recently been studying Meteroites and a rare earth Mag will attract a lot of earth rock as well fridge mags are good indicater. best of luck.

Not a meteorite.

With that said, never ask if you found a meteorite on a forum. Take your sample to a geologist at a local college or university.
