Michigan Badger's Silver uMax secret works on GOLD too!!

In the Reviews forum MB dishes out a neat little trick for the Silver uMax (thanks MB!)...maxing out the sensitivity as high as possible without chattering and setting the disc to the "o" in foil. Well, I didn't get any deep silver coins but I did snag this beautiful antique 14K gold ring at about 5" right next to the old Womens Club (built in the '20s). It was up against the curb in an easement and I know I've passed by it before with my detector but never heard it, or, heard it and thought it was junk. This time, though, outfitted with my 10x12, it did not escape despite a slightly broken signal, and, given the fact that I have not been out much lately, it was to refreshing to dig something I could come home and brag about. Looks like a wedding ring but it is quite small (won't even go past the second knuckle on my pinky finger). Now I've got to go back and find the stone I left behind!!

Nice find.
I called Tesoro to tout the easy way that my silver umax
found to little nuggets of gold in the Nevada desert last
year and they told me that that is not what they were
engineered for. The man I spoke to said that finding small
gold with the umax was "unusual".
Good thing for us they were wrong.

Ray,

Congrats on your old gold ring. Those are tough finds when there's a lot of trash targets in the ground.

Good luck out there. Silver is almost gone! ;D ;D

Re: Michigan Badger's Silver uMax secret works on GOLD too!!

Thanks folks!

Mostly I'm out digging for silver coins, but when gold comes along it's always a nice surprise. ;D

I'm curious, though, what the mark "KB" means that comes after the 14K? Also, I've been staring at the top where the stone is supposed to sit. Looks like it could be platinum, but I'm not really sure. It's feels very top heavy on that part of the ring.

Any clues?

Ray

Oh, hey Dan, I've got a few books I'm giving away for free. Go check them out and tell me if you think you could use them: http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,199301.0.html

I think you need to go back to that hols with a screen and sift the soil for that diamond. Congrats

Re: Michigan Badger's Silver uMax secret works on GOLD too!!

Thanks Allen and finderzzs!

finderzzs, yes I did go back and screen the dirt, and...no luck. Same story as with all other rings I find with no stone. The diamond was pretty small so I didn't hold out much hope. But I tried. Since I have the day off tomorrow I'm gonna see if I can get permission to detect the grounds of the Womens Club. Maybe I'll come up with a deepie silver using MBs trick. :o
