Took my 9 year old prospecting this weekend and he found a lot of mica and a ton of quartz in the same location. I have never seen that much of either in one spot. He didn't find any gold but he was happy with the mica. Has anyone seen a spot like this before in a river. Just wondering if it is a matter of digging deeper to find some gold.

Mica usually forms with quartz in pockets in granite. While mica is not an indicator of gold deposits, usually (there are exceptions to every rule), you may
discover some smokey quartz crystals or amethyst (purple crystals) which are fun to collect. I've spent hundreds of hours digging nice crystals out of
granite rock (along with mica). I sold these at yard sales flea markets, etc. Peterson Mountain Commercial Dig 2006, Page 1

Ya that's what I thought I was amazed him much it looked like gold. I usually don't find mica and some of the places I go.
