MF Sings "I'm The Man On The Silver Mountain!!!!" 4/14 Results....
Well, small hill would be more like it, but what the heck!
Last week (as I posted in some other posts about the other 2 boxes I searched), I was told by my tellers at my bank branch that some guy had dropped off $1500 in Ikes and $360 in halves. I declined to fool with the Ikes, but now I wonder if I should not have gotten them.
So Saturday morning (after a fairly successful week with the other 2 boxes) I went by there and picked up the box of halves. I was encouraged by the fact that they were wrapped in several different varieties of half-dollar wrappers, some of them appearing to be kind of old.
My next stop was to drop some stuff off at my parent's house about 20 minutes away, so I decided to just hang out there and search the rolls at their kitchen table.
I am glad I did, as I have been telling my family about my new hobby for almost a year (since I started).
Before I even left the parking lot I peeked at the end of a couple of rolls. Both times I saw a silver JFK staring back at me.
SO I got to my p's house, and my mom was not up, but my Dad was....so I sat down at the kitchen table and opened the first roll.
(5) 40% halves.
Almost every roll produced silver. And the cool thing was, I made some great finds right there in front of my Dad.
In one roll there was a silver half whose edge was that brilliant white color, and I knew in a flash it was either a Ben or a Walker.
It was a Walker, 1918-D...date was so worn I could only make out the 8 and could barely make out the 1.
So I just kept on....my Mom woke up and came into the kitchen, and I invited her to sit down and watch.
Every roll...."Hey, more silver here...."
In one roll there were 2 Sacagawea dollars!
In another there were 2 Susan B. Anthony dollars!
You guys know how it is...when getting hand-rolled halves, you have only 2 possibilities....either the person is into CRH also, or they have just been saving them up in a jar for however many years (or something like that).
I got lucky this time. Final tally at my p's house?
(5) Walkers, (1) Ben, (3) 1964 Kennedys (42) 40% Kennedys, (2) Sac Dollars, (2) SBA Dollars.
I gave my Dad the 1937 half, just because. I was just happy I had a good batch of rolls to demonstrate my hobby to him lol.
So when I got home, it was late, and yesterday I was gone all day as well. Yesterday while running errands, I stopped at Barnes & Noble and picked up a 2008 Redbook. I have needed one for quite some time. Got home late last night, and sat and checked the dates of all the halves. I did not find any more silver, but I did get a pair of really nice Proofs!!!
Anyway, I took pictures, and will post them this evening when I get home from work.
Once again I say, Happy Hunting everybody!
