The value on the obsolete versions dropped so much that the mexicans were selling them by the bank bag full as scrap metal. siegfried schlagrule

awhile back they did a like 100 to 1 shrinkage of their money 100 old peso for 1 new peso --- think of trading in 100 bucks for 1 "new" buck and you get the picture real quick.

almost sounds like the episode of M*A*S*H* where Charles was paying 10 cents cash on the dollar for old script money, so he could trade it in for new script. Only Charles got burned, I don't think the Mexican government lost on the deal

Speaking of script money, and we were weren't we? I had forgotten script money we had to use on base when I was overseas in the Air Force. You could trade your script in for Libyan money if you were going shopping for souvenirs, but you couldn't trade it back when you got back on base. I found out that the Libyan merchants would take anything to make a sale. First the preferred the U.S. dollar, then Air Force Script and their own money last! No, I forgot, the best form of currency was American cigarettes! All quite illegal I assume. M ::) nty

yep overseas MARLBORO REDS were often as good as or even better than cash money -- --- quite illegal ---(bought on base for "personal use" by the case load ----- then smuggled a few cartons at a time to be sold or traded at hefty profit to the "locals") -- blackmarket tax free smokes --- Ivan

Do you know the only abused drug historically grown and harvested in North America to spread its addiction worldwide is,
...you guessed it, ...tobacco!

Sailors on a Russian ship docked at New Orleans once traded us a carton of Russian cigarettes for one pack of Marlboros.
