This bottle contained Mexican Mustang Liniment, a product of the Lyon Manfacturing Company in New York. It was advertised as a miraculous cure-all, good for whatever ailed you. Even better, you could use it on your horses and cattle as well! The main ingredient was apparently crude petroleum, so it undoubtedly did have an effect on people, but I doubt it was a good one.

It was advertised and promoted heavily, and was available at "any store in the civilized world".

Good for men, women, children, horses, and cattle!

And my favorite ad for this one:

You'll be alright in a day or two, and so will your horse.

Here it is before and after cleaning -- just soap and water and a brush.

There is a shipwreck here in the Florida keys called the "Isaac Alerton" it had thousands of bottles of this Mexican mustang liniment on board !! I have several from the shoreline in front of the wreck, and some were gotten off the wreck itself !! Many many more remain on the shipwreck along with many other types of bottles !! Aqua colored bottles seem to be the most prevalent for mustang liniment. Very nice right up and research 👌

Incredible, cures deafness, scald-head, rabid dogs ! It is sad that this advertising was allowed at a time and sad that some may have believed it. Thank you FDA and thanks Robert for the history !

Yeah, but overall that looks really good! Salt water seems kinder to the glass than muddy ground, for sure. Thank you for posting those!
