I found this button this weekend here near the coast in Deep South Texas. Everyone knows the Eagle with the snake is Mexican, but the Crown over it?? Maximilian had a Crown over the Eagle on the flag during his reign so it might be from that era, but I just cannot locate another example. Has anyone ever seen one like this. It has me stumped. It has a cool back though!

That form of button usually has a backmark. You may need to do some gentle cleaning on your button's back to be able to read the backmark. If possible, please do that and tell us what the backmark says ...including all lettering and any symbols in it, such as an anchor-symbol.

Your button's form (a 1-piece brass bowl with a "birdcage" shank) looks very much like the ones manufactured by TW&W (Trelon, Weldon, & Weill) of Paris, France.

birdcage is classic French, looks early 19th C, not seen it before though :icon_thumright:

Man it took a lot of careful cleaning but you were right. I could just make out on the upper half of the button rim. It is printed TW&W. Another clue it is Trelon, Weldon, & Weill!! A star on the left of the rim is followed by the T, and generous space and then a W, another space and what I think is an & symbol and then after another space another W.
Thanks TheCannonballGuy. Now if I could just find another front like this one. :notworthy:
