During a recent field investigation in Chongwe District, Lusaka Province, Zambia, an unusual stone weighing over 100 kilograms was discovered. The specimen is entirely solid, dark in appearance, magnetic, and displays a surface resembling a fusion crust — characteristics commonly associated with meteorites. Several other stones of similar size and morphology were also found scattered nearby. Given the geologically diverse setting of Chongwe, underlain by Mesoproterozoic Basement Complex rocks (including gneiss, amphibolites, quartzites, and schists) and the overlying Neoproterozoic Katanga Supergroup, the nature of this discovery warrants further investigation. Although the region's geology primarily consists of metamorphic and sedimentary rocks, the unique features and high iron content of the stone raise the possibility of an extraterrestrial origin.
