Wow Joe. What is it about that rock that inspired you to carry it a quarter of a mile? Why did meteorite come to mind? Where were you when I was clearing my acre lot in western Washington of glacial rocks and boulders. "Joe, these are all meteorites. You can take them all." A lot of us have thought we found a meteorite, most of us have been wrong. You need to keep that, though. You earned it.

Magnetic does not mean meteorite. Many rocks are attracted to magnets. My driveway is crushed basalt. Much is attracted to magnets.

Cutting and rough sanding does not mean much either. With many meteorites, the Widmanstätten pattern is not observable until the cut surface is smoothly polished.

I have never understood what WD-40 is for.

I do, however, applaud the effort and enthusiasm. I would not move an 68 pound rock unless I knew it had some value. That took some work.

Time to add something to the coffee.

Thanks for the info. I have to research how to smoothly polish it. I'm just enjoying all the new info I'm researching. I know that it's likely a rock but they are turning out to be pretty interesting too. You should've seen my cousins face when I told him I wasn't leaving the woods without it. He said at least we will have a good story to tell our other cousins and family during the holidays. "Like two bafoons, we carried that thing a quarter mile" all good.
