The exposed part is about 4-5 inches long (still buried so no idea how big the entire piece is). Strong attraction to a neodymium magnet. Dismissed it as slag but then thought slag would be rusted and not have metal veins like this. Then I thought magnetite covering a piece of limestone. Figured I'd post it here for some feedback.
Thanks in advance!

Not a meteorite.

Possibly basalt.

Thanks but too metallic for basalt.

Too metallic for basalt?

Many basalts will attract even a weak magnet. Tell us more about the metallic qualities of this rock.

Time for more coffee. With additives.

Magnet clung to it like it would a piece of cast iron. I'm thinking spill or some other product from a local furnace (lots of mining activity in the area during colonial/revolutionary times). Will have to dig it up next Spring for a better look.

Take a piece and make a polished sample. Show it

Doesn't look like a meteorite but that would be a cha ching if it was!!

Thanks- finally went back and dug it up. Bloomery slag. Interesting piece of history but no cha ching for me!
