Yeap, Snake buckle. Might not be that old, they used this partiular design way into the 1990s on miltary belt buckles, mostly the Royal Navy types.

The other looks like a Lowenbrau Beer key chain. ;D

What makes this so unusual is that I am in Canada, 400 miles North West of Winninpeg, in the town of THE PAS. This town is situated on the Saskatchewan River and was origonally settled as a major fur trading location. It has been historically a hunting and fishing destination for American sportsmen, and there was a US Air Force radar installation 15 miles north of the town for decades. I can only assume that this buckle was in the possession of one of the soldiers. As well, the Hudson Bay Railway line was built in the 20's, and I understand that many of the construction crews were from the US.
There is a park on both sides of the main hyway that runs through the town, and has remained undeveloped and used as a meeting place and green space since the town was built. This park has yielded a large number of coins from the 1880's up, and jewelery over the years. The best coin to date is the Canadian 1921 5 cent piece my brother found in the park. This coin was sold three years ago for $ 3,000 cdn, and is now worth twice that amount.

Thank you all for helping with the identification of the snake buckle and i wish you all good hunting.

Yeah, here we go again.......

Everything is Confederate!

Exactly. From what I understand, this design (on the snake itself) is newer by far than the CW. Not every snake buckle (used by the Brits for hundreds of years) is CW.

The keeper on the one in this link is Way too thin to even be a 19th c. example! And the price is Way too high. I have seen one from a CW site--just the snake and the one side of the buckle, for sale for $75.

From a non-CW site, and of a newer design, without either keeper, you're probably looking at less than $30.

Cool find :icon_thumright:

So not even CW era :dontknow: Tough to put a specific date on the buckle, but IMO it's a match to one posted on the link.

Understand and have seen incorrect ID's on several sites with military relics for sale. I still like the snake buckle, but would never pay $425 for it, Military or not. Cool find and a keeper for sure :icon_thumright:

Its a match, but I'm sure its no older than WWI.

The lion is the "lion rampant". I know this as it is my family crest (and many others to be sure). So, not necessarily Lowenbrau. Could be heraldic for lots of things and probably difficult to say what it is from.

There are no visible makers mark on the reverse of the "key chain". Thought maybe this could be a sweater of jacket pull.
