It seems to have a knurled end and brassish-- might be a valve part, do both ends look alike?
p.s.---still have defrosted ground here, but under 8'' of snow---!(time to hit the coast beaches)

Interesting ...
I have no clue what it might be, but thought I'd share the following for those like me who didn't know what a "Billet" was. Plus, I re-did the picture as close to actual size as I could based on the fingers.
SBB
Billet:
Noun:
1. A small chunk of wood; a short section of a log, especially one cut for fuel.
2. Metalworking . a comparatively narrow, generally square, bar of steel, especially one rolled or forged from an ingot; a narrow bloom.
3. An iron or steel slab upon concrete, serving as a footing to a column.
4. Architecture: Any of a series of closely spaced cylindrical objects, often in several rows, used as ornaments in a hollow molding or cornice.
5. A strap that passes through a buckle, as to connect the ends of a girth.
Steve,I should have known that, worked in the Steel Room at Pratt&Whitney in 72.It's a round. Thanks for the memories!stevemc said:Actually that would be a piece of rod. Billet is usually a flat wide bar of metal. Rods usually dont have stamping on them. I was thinking a cut brass hammer for not making sparks. But you said it was silver metal.
