Seems we had one of these not too long ago - sans wood. A ramrod holder is not out of the realm of possibility.

I had posted a ramrod clip a few weeks back, but this does not have the clip. :dontknow:

Looks to me like a sleeve that goes on a bolt between the rubber/neoprene bushings on an automotive front end sway bar. QUICKSILVER(appletree)

Does a magnet stick to it?

expanding pin, like a wristpin. tractor part?

This is what comes to mind to me. We use them on parts like the PTO shaft. You have to take a punch to drive them in or take them out. I have seen them in sizes from very small to 1/2"+ in dia.

I will try to help if I may. We need to determine the type of metal before making guesses. Garabaldi, you need to give it the magnet test at least. Will a magnet stick to it? I dont see any rust. If its copper or brass it cannot be a drift pin, wrist pin or tie rod bushing sleeve.

A magnet will not stick to it. :dontknow:

OK thanks. :icon_thumright: That means it is not ferrous. So it cannot be a front end part/sleeve or wrist/drift pin because they are steel. I dont know what it is but just trying to help. Its rolled brass I think.

I think trader is on the right track with saying fishing/cane pole piece. It could also be the piece from tent rods.

Garibaldi, this seems to be brass with the same old patina of many of your colonial finds. If it has wood runing it's full length it could possibly be the male end fitting to a fishing rod (although if this is of the age it appears to be, I don't know if there were break apart fishing rods then)

What's interesting is that when you calculate the diameter (against the quarter) it seems to be roughly 54 caliber, a size of some colonial muskets. I don't know if musket ramrods were ever fitted with brass tubular furrules but I assume some were. I do know that some large caliber pistol ramrods were fitted with tubular brass.

sliding piece from a parasol--with part of the wooden shaft of it still inside.

Johnnyi, the site I found this is the same one that I found the ramrod clip. I took some more images and the side with the wood has been cut. i am assuming this because the end is at an angle. You can see it in the images. The side that has no wood is not at an angle. :dontknow:
