Looks like a cast metal bracket for the bleachers maybe.
Is this aluminum? Or possibly cast iron, bronze, brass?

Hard to tell though.
Can you post a top and back view picture?

IF THE HOLE IS THREADED, IT COULD BE SOME KIND OF CLIP TO HOLD A SHEET OF GLASS. A SCREW PUSHES AGAINST THE GLASS TO HOLD IT IN PLACE. SHOWER DOOR COULD BE RIGHT.

Kinda looks like a bb-gun sight to me.The kind you could adjust by moving it forward or backward to raise it or lower it.The old Crossman 760 maybe. But it's been a while since I owned one. :-\ So is the hole threaded?

The hole is not threaded. I thought gunsight at first myself, but it is really too rough and heavy for a gunsight. The back of the thing is just flat metal. I did a little scraping on one corner and it looks like it's going to be made of brass. Monty

I found some other what is its and they turned out to be shelf brackets too, so I wouldn't be surprised. Thanks for the good answers I think we have it figured out. Monty

The first ones I found were from a school library. The resason it's so heavey is because of the weight of the books. Monty
