If they're aluminum, then they aren't CW.  In the 1860s you could make an item out of Iron, Brass, Lead, Pewter, or for coins copper, silver, and gold.  And they ain't gutta percha.

My hunch is that these are more modern--and especially two of them with the same initials found.  These aren't ID discs.

Best Wishes,

They all have the same initials.... at the area they were found ,its only been a civil war camp and a stage coach stop . Since about 1870 its been a pasture.

aluminum in the civil war time would have been worth more than gold, Most likely some one working the fields lost em in modern times.

??? Thoughts are running towards some kind of counter tags, like for picking certain crops or something similar. Keeping track of how much was picked by a certain individual then getting paid for them. :icon_scratch:

Thanks Everyone.....I hate when I look and look at something for days and cant figure it out....after posting , I did a little more research and found out that the neighboring property(split by the Old Wire Road) was owned by a man with these initials who also ran a freight line......

I'm wondering if they could have been id tags for either hunting dogs or livestock. My grandfather made pretty crude tags for his hunting dogs out of scrap metal blanks, usually aluminum, and he would only put his initials them (why he didn't put his phone number is beyond me).

Just something to consider.
