Metal detecting in Japan?

I recently read an article about the aging population of japan, especially in rural areas, and how it will cause many towns and hamlets in the following years to just disappear. I was wondering if anyone knew if there was much of a detecting scene over there? I would be very curious to see what types of finds they dig.

On another detecting forum I am on we had a large group of members who detecting in Japan. Mostly military members stationed at the various bases there.

They were making great finds in jewelry and spendable coin!!
