Found this on a site with lots of 1800s stuff. Not sure if it’s modern. Cap at top is corroded on. Feels military in nature

My first thought was a metal film canister, but I guess they only made those in 35mm format. (?).
But, fuse end cap and/or battery also fits well, based on the photos we have.
