I posted this in todays finds earlier because I know what is. But I would kinda like to find more info if anyone can help. I unearthed a lot from this site and all date from late 1800s to early 1900s. It was deep under roots. Also a reminder to all diggers poison oak Ivey and sumac is not a myth! My hands look like alligator gloves! Another lesson learned! image.jpgimage.jpg

True cameos in fine jewelry are carved from precious or semiprecious stones or mother of pearl and other such materials. Cameo motifs are more of a decorative thing used in jewelry and other adornments. Your piece could have been on a ring or earring, perhaps mounted on a woman's purse or make up case. It could date as far back as Victorian times.
It's a neat find and will display well.

Looks like your cameo was part of a cufflink - late Victorian:

I'm good with a cufflink piece. For the record a cameo is a carved, single or binary colored layered stone or shell. This thin stamped metal item I believe is known as Repoussé or a metal stamp chasing type technique. This one was done with a master die in a press. late 1800s to early 1900s is right on .

I passed this thread by a dozen times because I didn't understand METAL CAMO.

May be time to have my eyes checked. :BangHead:
