Hello everyone! I found this item in eastern North Carolina over the weekend while metal detecting. It was in a field that is routinely used for crops. It's definitely metal but a magnet would not attach. Is this even an arrowhead, and if so, what metal could it be? Ideas of age? Any info appreciated for this first-time poster!

I agree with newnan man - it's not what I would expect a metal arrowhead to be in a location you are in.

During the early historic period, most metal arrowheads were fashioned from old copper pots, broken wagon wheel bands or broken files.

Of course, this is not a fully encompassing list and there could be other less common materials. Any metal refuse could have been used be adaptive native Americans.

Most found to date have a common, if somewhat diversified, form and shape. That metal specimen you found does not fall into any of those I don't think.

Barrel bands were also a common source of metal for arrowheads. About all the metal arrowheads I’ve seen have a small stem. This includes the old copper culture spears.
The steel one is from the southern interior of BC. 55yrs ago on a beach.
The copper one is from the mill pond below my barn NE Kingston ON.
